MEDUSA'S REVENGE (TOTE)
This sculpture of Medusa holding the severed head of Perseus is the basis of a popular women’s rights meme. Here’s the real story behind the woman with snakes for hair. In Greek mythology, Medusa was a priestess who served Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare. God of the sea Poseidon wanted Medusa but she rejected him. So Poseidon r***ed her in Athena’s temple. This made Athena mad. But she wasn’t mad about Medusa being attacked. She was angry her temple had been desecrated. Athena transformed Medusa into a Gorgon. She had snakes in her hair and could turn men to stone. She was terrifying. Perseus was told to kill Medusa. He used a special shield to avoid her gaze. He decapitated Medusa and gave it to Athena. She used it to kill her enemies. Poseidon was never held to account. Luciano Garbati re-imagined Medusa, letting her have revenge.
